Good to know
Best time to go
March to May and October to November are the most pleasant. Summer often goes above 40 °C. Winter days are mild and sunny, but nights are cold. During Ramadan opening hours change, and evenings are especially lively.
Getting around
Explore the medina on foot – the lanes and signs are confusing, so an offline map helps. For longer trips take a petit taxi and agree the fare first. In the medina you mostly pay cash in dirhams. From the airport a taxi or bus gets you into town in about 20–30 minutes.
Where to stay
A riad in the medina
Stay in an old townhouse with a courtyard, close to the souks and Jemaa el-Fna. Quiet behind the walls, but cars can't reach the door.
Gueliz
The new town with cafés, hotels and wide streets. More convenient and closer to Jardin Majorelle; take a taxi to the medina.

Marrakech: frequently asked questions
Are 3 days enough for Marrakech?
Yes, for the medina and one trip out. With more time, the Atlas Mountains, the Ourika Valley or a night in the desert are worth it.
Is Marrakech safe?
Generally, yes. The annoying part is self-appointed guides and touts steering you into shops. A friendly, firm no is usually enough.
What should I wear in Marrakech?
Light clothing that covers shoulders and knees is more comfortable and respectful in the medina. Bring a jacket for cold winter evenings.
How do I get from the airport into the city?
By taxi or airport bus, about 20–30 minutes. Many riads offer a pick-up, because cars can't drive right up to the door.
