Good to know
Best time to go
May to September: long light evenings, Tivoli is open and you can sit outside by the water. In June it hardly gets dark. Winter is cold and dark early, but cosy, with Christmas markets in December.
Getting around
The centre is easy on foot. Metro, buses and S-trains run frequently; buy tickets at the machines or via the app. Copenhagen is ideal for cycling – rental bikes are everywhere. From the airport the metro takes about 15 minutes to the centre.
Where to stay
Indre By
The old town: central between Nyhavn, Strøget and Tivoli. Everything is walkable, but expensive.
Vesterbro
Lively district behind Central Station, with Kødbyen and lots of cafés. Good for evenings and well connected.

Copenhagen: frequently asked questions
Is Copenhagen expensive?
Yes, food and hotels cost more than in most of Europe. Save money with food halls, bakeries and free places like the Christiansborg tower.
When is Tivoli open?
Tivoli opens in seasons: summer, Halloween and Christmas. In between, the park is closed. Check the dates before you go.
Can I pay by card in Copenhagen?
Almost everywhere – often card only. You will hardly need cash in kroner.
Is the trip to Louisiana and Kronborg worth it?
Yes, both are on the same rail line. If you only have time for one: Louisiana for art and sea views, Kronborg for history.
