Good to know

Best time to go

Singapore is hot and humid all year, around 30 °C. November to January is the wettest period, and February to April is often a little drier. Short, heavy showers can come at any time – keep an umbrella in your bag.

Getting around

The MRT is fast, clean and air-conditioned; pay contactless with your bank card at the gates. Eating and drinking are banned on trains and in stations. Walk short distances, and in the heat a taxi or ride-hailing app is worth it. The MRT runs from Changi Airport into the city.

Where to stay

Marina Bay and the Civic District

Right between the bay, the museums and the river. Expensive, but you can walk almost everywhere.

Chinatown

Cheaper, with hawker centres on the doorstep and good MRT links. Good if you plan to eat out a lot.

Singapore: frequently asked questions

Are 3 days enough for Singapore?

For the main districts, yes – the city is compact. For a long-haul trip it is short, though: a fourth and fifth day leave room for Sentosa, the zoo with the Night Safari or the island of Pulau Ubin.

What is a hawker centre?

An open hall with lots of small food stalls, often serving Chinese, Malay and Indian dishes. Cheap, quick and typically Singaporean.

What should I sort out before the trip?

Check entry requirements with your government's travel advice before you go. Singapore has strict rules, for example against littering – tourists get fined too.

How do I get from the airport into the city?

By MRT from Changi, with a change, about 45 minutes to the centre. Taxis and ride-hailing are quicker and not expensive.
