Good to know
Best time to go
May to September is best, when people sit outside by the river. Bled is very crowded in July and August. In December the old town is lit up for the holidays, but it is cold and often foggy.
Getting around
The centre is small and largely pedestrianised, so you walk almost everywhere. City buses are paid with the Urbana card, sold at machines and kiosks. Buses and shuttles run from the airport, about 30–45 minutes.
Where to stay
Old town
Around Prešeren Square and the Ljubljanica. Everything is walkable, and the riverside is lively in the evening.
Trnovo and Krakovo
Quiet districts south of the old town with small houses and gardens. About a 10-minute walk to the centre.

Ljubljana: frequently asked questions
Are 3 days enough for Ljubljana?
Yes, the city is small. Two days cover the centre, leaving the third for Bled. With more time, add Lake Bohinj or the Postojna caves.
Is the castle funicular worth it?
It saves you the steep climb and takes only about a minute. On foot you are at the top in about 15 minutes, and it is a nice walk.
Can you do Bled as a day trip?
Yes, by bus from Ljubljana. Leave early – in summer the castle, boats and lakeside paths get busy.
When is the market open?
Monday to Saturday; it is closed on Sundays. The choice is biggest in the morning.
